1) Training on how to Create Podcasts (11/28)
Apple will be at Rutgers on 11/28 to provide training in podcast creation
software (Garage Band and Profcast). There are sessions from 9-12 and 1-4
in the Allison Road Classroom Building on Busch Campus. If you'd like to
attend, please send email to oirt@rutgers.edu specifying which session you
would prefer.
2) Rutgers' Internet2 Day for Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
OIT and Internet2 are co-sponsoring a 1/2 day symposium March 21st on
innovative uses of technology within the arts, humanities and social
sciences. Faculty focus groups are currently being formed to help decide
on topics to be covered during the symposium. If you or your colleagues
would like to participate in setting up the agenda for this event, please
contact the symposium chair, Tom Grzelak (grzelak@rutgers.edu). For more
information, please visit http://internet2.rutgers.edu.
3) Research Programmer Service
Have you or your colleagues had the need to hire a programmer in support
of your research efforts? Would having a 1/5 time (or more) research
programmer help you accomplish your projects? OIRT is considering the
development of a professional programming staff dedicated to research
applications. This staff would be available for short- and long-term
contracts. OIRT would provide office space, basic development platforms,
admin support, and personnel management. Please provide us your feedback
(email to Tom Grzelak grzelak@rutgers.edu) on whether you would find such
a service attractive or not. It is very important that we hear from you.
4) Unmet Academic Software Needs
Academic software collection development evolves as it enters the third
year. In preparation for the next round of software site licensing
beginning during the Spring Semester, we are asking you to identify your
department's unmet software needs. Please forward unmet software needs
along with a brief description of how it would make a difference to Bob
Gerdes (gerdes@rutgers.edu).
