Update: RefWorks and Endnote Bibliographic Software Presentations (Oct 12 & 28)
The Office of Instructional and Research Technology, Center for the Advancement of Teaching, and the Rutgers University Libraries are continuing to investigate possible acquisition of a university wide site license for a bibliographic management software program. The two programs being considered are EndNote and RefWorks. A committee to plan the evaluation and selection process is being formed, with membership from CAT, OIRT, the Libraries, and the faculty. The committee will advise on how we can come to agreement on what features and functionality are necessary and desired, how to stage product demonstrations and trials, and how to identify the requirements for technical and training support, as well as on how to make a selection. Open demonstrations are scheduled with EndNote at 1:30pm October 12th and RefWorks at 10am October 28th. Please register for these events from the "Upcoming IT Events" section of http://oirt.rutgers.edu

How Will They Impact Future Practice and Delivery of Health Care, Education and Research? UMDNJ's NIH-Funded IAIMS Project, Informatics Institute and Department of Information Services & Technology are hosting a symposium on Nov 14, 2005 devoted to advanced networks and services. The symposium is structured to explore and introduce new capabilities, stimulate awareness in "next generation applications" and the ways they can advance clinical, research, and educational agendas. Please review preliminary program at http://istweb.umdnj.edu/pdf/I2AwarenessDay.pdf. Continental breakfast and lunch will be available. Registration and other details to follow at http://oirt.rutgers.edu

Update: Videoconferencing Demo & Showcase (Sep 27th)

For more information or registration for the full day, please visit at http://www.njedge.net/activities UPDATE: EVO, the new version of VRVS.org, demonstration has been added to the agenda.

Issue of the Month: eResearch & Collaboratories
To facilitate OIRT development support efforts, OIRT would appreciate your assistance by directing faculty interested in "eResearch and/or Collaboratories" to contact us at oirt@rutgers or by providing names of faculty whose projects might make use of these capabilities. Video Conferencing and Sakai's Collaboration and Learning Environment can assist collaborations with peers from around the world. eResearch could be used to help with project management, could increase communication opportunities, or could help to bring research opportunities to students. For more information regarding collaboratories, refer to http://oirt.rutgers.edu/collaboratories.html. Note that Sakai's December Conference (http://sakaiproject.org/) will have an eResearch track.

Next month, the "issue of the month" will be a request to help OIRT identify your department's unmet software needs while we ask your computing support staff for existing software inventory. The combined results will be reviewed for opportunities to build shared efforts for developing site licensing (e.g. ChemDraw or Maple) or reduced pricing (e.g. Stata).

Note that questions pertaining more directly to a campus, departmental, or partner IT organization will be coordinated with that university unit.
