SAKAI COLLABRORATION
Sakai at Rutgers
Sakai, a higher education community project to develop and support a new collaboration and learning environment.
The Sakai system is a potential alternative to course management software such as Blackboard and WebCT and is intended
to facilitate collaboration in research, administration, and service, as well as in courses.
To create a site in Sakai
To create a site in Sakai, you use a web browser to choose from Sakai's features and functions. Here are some examples of websites made with Sakai:
- a website where an instructor or project director can make announcements and share resources, such as electronic documents or links to other websites.
- a website that serves as an online discussion board.
- a course website where students can work on and submit assignments electronically.
To use Sakai, no knowledge of HTML is necessary. Because it is web-based, you can use any operating system (i.e. Mac or PC) and access it at any time.
Rutgers is piloting Sakai. In 2007, we will evaluate the results of the pilot, as well as experience with commercial course management systems, and develop recommendations.
