POLYCOM PVX

Introduction
Polycom PVX is a full-featured H.323 compliant desktop videoconferencing solution for Microsoft Windows PCs. There is no client currently available for Mac or Solaris. The strength of this package is its quick set-up, ease-in-use and compability with other H.323 clients.

Polycom PVX is not a free client (average cost ~$110). A free demo version of the Polycom PVX client is available HERE. This will allow a user to connect to a videoconference for up to 5 minutes.

How To....
Place a Call
Note: If you are using E.164 Addresses (Global Dialing Scheme), the Rutgers Gatekeeper address must be entered in the Setup Menu -> H.323 -> Getkeeper IP Address: 165.230.252.48:1719
1) Click on the Directory.
2) Enter the IP/E.164 address of the participant in the box at the top of the window and click the green Call button. (Hint: For frequent conferencees, you may consider adding them to your directory. Connecting to them would be as simple as double-clicking on their System Name.)
3) You should connect to the system you are trying to reach.

Desktop Sharing
This will allow your desktop and any applications to be shared between you and the other participant (must be another Polycom system.)
1) Make conference call as described above.
2) Click on Show Desktop.

Data Sharing Tools (Introduction)
If the participant you are connecting to supports T.120 or is another Polycom PVX system, you can make use of the Data Sharing Tools under the Controls tab. When you share an online document, all participants see the document just as you see it but you maintain control of the document. You can also take sharing one step further and allow participants to collaborate, or edit, the document. All sites in a call must support T.120 application sharing in order to collaborate. If the call does not support collaboration, you can still share an application or a document but the other sites will not be able to edit the document.
