Google Reader

What is it?

  • Google Reader is a tool for gathering, reading, and sharing all the interesting blogs and websites you read into one location within your Google application toolbar

Terminology

  • Subscription: Items from the web you wish to add to your Google Reader
  • Reader Feed: After subscribing to a site or blog, the items on said site or blog will automatically be placed in your Reader as they become available

Getting started

  • Subscribe to a Feed
    • Enter the URL of your blog or site at “Add a Subscription”
    • Most blogs have feed autodiscovery meaning the site will automatically tell Reader where to find a blog’s feed
  • Reading Feeds
    • See the number of new or unread items next to each feed’s title
    • Click on the feed’s title will display the contents of the feed in your browser
  • Discover MORE Feeds
    • Find feeds recommended for you based on your existing subscriptions
  • Share Items With Friends
    • Share interesting news items with your friends
  • Adding Notes
    • Comment on news items that your friends have shared with you
