Google+

What is it?

  • Google+ is a new social networking service that allows users to communicate and share with their friends

Features

  • Circles: Share things with different “circles” of friends—circles make it easy to put different people in your life into different groups; whether it be family, friends, or coworkers
  • Hangouts: Let specific buddies (or an entire circle) know you’re hanging out and see who drops by for a face-to-face chat
  • Huddle: Group Chatting within circles, makes group discussions easier and more efficient
  • Input Box: Allows users to enter a status update or use icons to upload and share photos and videos
  • Instant Uploads: Photos and videos taken on your smart device upload themselves automatically to a private album on Google+
  • Sparks: Tell Sparks what you are interested in and it will show you posts it thinks you’ll like
  • Stream: This is where users see updates from those they follow in their circles; it can be filtered to display updates from specific circles

Getting started

  • Google+ is now open to everyone. Simply log in to Google or create a Google account to get started
  • When signed up, fill out your profile with a picture of yourself and some information
  • To add people to your circles, look them up in the main search bar on top of the page and click the Add to Circles button
    • The person will be notified of you adding them, however they do not have to add you to their circles
    • If they don’t, you will only see the posts they share publicly; otherwise, you will see all posts they share with the circle they’ve placed you in
