What is it?

  • LinkedIn is a free networking website where users make accounts geared towards business related social networking

Terminology

  • Connection: The people you invite/invited
  • My Network: A group of users you can contact through your connections
  • Request: A request for a contact sent to another user
  • Profile: What others see when they search you
  • Endorsement: A short comment sent to another user that is visible to your connections
  • Expired Invitation: When an invitation has not been accepted after a long time or has been declined

Getting started

  • Go to linkedin.com and create an account
  • To find other users:
    • Type a name into the search bar and find the correct person then add them as a connection
    • After you sign in, click on the “Add Connections” and you can find people through their email addresses
  • You can edit your profile and add information about yourself (education, work experience, personal information, etc)
    • There are ways to make your profile completely private by going to the “contact settings”
