What is it?

  • Skype is an application that allows individuals to make voice and video calls over the internet

Features

  • Skype-to-Skype: Call anyone, anywhere for free as long as they have a Skype account
  • Phones and Mobiles: Call mobile phones or landlines with Skype Credit or make it cheaper with a subscription
  • Conference Calling: Talk to more than one other person on a call. It is free if everyone is using a Skype account
  • Skype to Go:
    • Make calls with your mobile phone or landline with Skype Credit or a subscription
    • Get numbers by telling Skype what the landline or mobile number is and they will assign Skype number which you can call with
  • Online Number: Skype assigns a number which which you can receive calls from your Skype account from anywhere in the world using a mobile phone or landline
  • Voicemail: Receive messages when you are not around to pick up
  • Call Forwarding: Get incoming Skype calls forwarded to your mobile phone or landline; rates vary by country
  • Caller ID: Set up a number to be shown to people you are calling; there is a setup fee but calls are free
  • Call Transfer: Transfer Skype calls to other Skype users for free or to other phones for a fee
  • Video Calling: Talk face to face for free with other Skype users
  • Group Video Calling: Talk with more than one Skype user for free face-to-face
  • Screen Sharing: Share your screen with other Skype users for free
  • Instant Messaging: Instant message anyone on Skype for free
  • Sending Files: Send documents, photos, or videos to other Skype users for free
  • Text Messaging: Send text messages from your Skype account to mobile phones for a fee
  • Facebook: Skype and Facebook merged together
  • Skype Access: Log in through Skype from a location that has WiFi and connect to the Internet; pay per minute
